I live in Walthamstow, North East London. Postcode E17. I have known the area all my life and always tended to think of it as an area to maybe live in (as in "sleep and eat in") but not to necessarily hang out in. In recent years it has undergone a process of "gentrification". And it's true... property prices have risen dramatically. Probably much of that has been due to the extensive transport links into Central London. There has been, too, a change in the kind of people who live there now. Mostly "in-comers" with distinctly middle class accents. Which is to say, they don't speak like me. Still, looking around the area, not everything has changed. There are times I think that gentrification has a way to go...
